Double top for Bentley and Ferrari at H&H sale

A Bentley 3-litre and a Ferrari 365 GTC/4 were the top achievers at the 3 December sale, both selling for £212,800.

The 1927 3-litre Bentley Speed model retained its original engine and chassis. Importantly it had a detailed history from new; that revealed it had taken part in numerous classic rallies since the 1970s and covered 40,000 miles over the past 40 years while owned by the same family.

With three owners from new, the first for 34 years, the 1972 Ferrari 365 was showing a believed genuine 46,000 miles. Largely original, it had been resprayed and treated to re-connollised leather in 2012.

Another Ferrari gained the third highest price at the sale. One of the first five UK F355 Challenge models, with a brief race history, it sold for £89,600.

There were also plenty more affordable cars on offer, including a 1959 Jaguar Mk2 3.4 in barn find condition that was snapped up for just £1,300. With Mk2 auction house hammer prices averaging more than £13k over the past two years, the project car looks like a good investment.

Results for one and two-owner cars were mixed. A 1962 Mini Pick-up with canvas tilt achieved £9,856 - more than double its estimate. In contrast, a two-owner Rover P4 was sold for £5,040, almost £2k below its upper estimate.
