Top 10 UK classic car auction prices for April 2015

Classic car auction prices topped £5 million in April from more than 400 sale lots. Seventy-five different marques were on offer and more than 300 different models; more than 75% of those offered found buyers.

The highest achiever of the month was a Bentley R-type Continental HJ Mulliner Fastback. The 1953 model had been stored for the past 15 years and hardly used for the past 33, so was in need of serious recommissioning. After prolonged bidding at the Barons 21 April Sandown Park sale, it sold for £726,000, more than trebling its lower estimate of £200,000.

The only other car to sell for a six-figure sum was an Aston Martin DB6 in top condition. Around Â£28,000 had been spent on thhe 1969 saloon over the past decade, including a respray. Sold at the H&H Imperial War Museum sale, it went for £280,000 - £80,000 more than its lower estimate.

Another highlight of this month's top 10 was an unrestored Jaguar E-type V12 roadster that fetched close to £60,000 at the enornous Anglia 4 April sale. Showing 37,000 miles in the hands of three just owners, the 1973 sports car had been resprayed but was otherwise very original.
