Two hundred classics on offer at Historics

Almost 200 cars will be on offer at this Saturday’s Historics summer sale at the Brooklands Museum in Surrey. Cars from more than 40 different marques are on offer including 10 Bentleys, 25 Jaguars and 20 Mercs.

Top billing goes to a magnificent 1929 Bentley 4.5-litre open tourer that’s expected to sell for £525,000-£575,000. It is believed to have been rebodied by Vanden Plas in 1965 and has apparently had a significant amount of money spent on it over the years.

The Mercedes cars on offer range from a 1974 450SL with no reserve to a 2008 SLR McLaren expected to fetch more than £200,000. And the Jaguars include no less than seven E-types including a recently restored 1961 Series 1 roadster that’s believed to have covered little more than 20,000 miles. Its estimated at £140,000-£160,000.

Modern classics are well represented too. There’s a 1980 Suzuki SC100 ‘Whizzkid’ with two owners and 55,000 miles on the clock offered with no reserve. A fairly unusual sight is a Porsche 944 Cabriolet. The car on offer has recently had full body strip-down and repaint with undercarriage and arches resealed and a replacement cambelt within the last 5,000 miles. It’s expected to sell for £5,500-£8,000.

There’s also a 1960s-70s design icon – a Lamborghini Espada. A late series II car, it has Muira centre spinner Campagnolo wheels and Series I rear lamps. Although it’s an older restoration, having been repainted and given an engine rebuild in the 1980s, the car remains in good condition. The estimate is £45,000-£55,000.
