Bonhams to host first sale in Denmark to offer prestigious Frederiksen collection

Bonhams has announced that it will hold a one-off, single-owner sale – it’s first in Denmark – to offer 48 cars from the collection of Danish gentleman Henrik Frederiksen.

The sale will offer predominately pre-World War II cars, and includes 13 Rolls-Royces, three Mercedes-Benz cars, three Cadillacs and, two Bentleys. All the cars are in running condition, and the sale could result in a final figure of £25 million.

It will take place on Saturday 26 September at Mr Frederiksen’s picturesque 16th century manor house Lyngsbækgaard, the former residence of the King of Denmark, in the Mols Bjerge national park in Ebeltoft.

Although the collection spans almost 70 years – from a 1905 Woods Electric Queen Victoria Brougham to a 1974 Citroen DS 23 Pallas – the pre-WW2 cars are the most stunning.

They include a 1914 Rolls-Royce 40/50 Silver Ghost Boat Tail by Schebera, with a sculpted wooden body and sporty open top, and a 1933 Maybach DS8 Zeppelin Roadster described by Frederiksen as ‘perfect’.

Equally impressive are the 1939 Lagonda LG6 Rapide drophead coupe and the 1931 Duesenberg J Disappearing Top, not to mention the completely original 1914 Mercedes 28-95 Phaeton that Frederiksen and his late wife Vivi acquired from Uruguay.

Mr Frederiksen’s wife passed away earlier this year, and as they amassed the collection together over many years, he now feels it right to sell the cars.

Commenting ahead of the sale, Mr Frederiksen said: ‘I think cars are a kind of art. They’re beautiful. I’ve always bought with the heart and not with the brain, I go with what I like, so no ‘one’ is my favourite.

‘I’ve used the ex-JD Rockefeller Bentley and the Cadillac the most, so I’ll be sad to see them go’ he added.

Check the Bonhams Frederiksen Collection sale page for details of lots as they are added.
