Top 10 classic car auction prices from July 2015

More than 600 classic cars were sold at major auctions across the UK, Europe and the USA last month, achieving a total of £20.6 million. And it’s been a bonanza month for British auction house Barons, which gained its highest ever sale price.

The top price of the month - £781,000 - was made by an early Aston Martin DB6 Volante Vantage hat had been in single ownership for 34 years. The 1969 car was one of just 29 high-output Mk1 DB6 Vantage Volantes built and it was in highly original condition.

It was expected to sell for up to £750,000, but topped that figure by £30,000, giving Barons its highest sale price to-date. It’s the second time this year the Esher-based Barons has sold a car for more than £700,000, in April a Bentley R-type Continental HJ Mulliner went for £726,000.

Four of the month’s top 10 prices were paid at Coys’ Blenheim Palace sale. The highest was £751,700 for a low-mileage Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona. The original right-hand drive UK car had covered just over 30,000 miles and had full service history and was unrestored. At te same sale a genuine 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS sold for just under £420,000, and a fully race-prepared Jaguar E-type fhc with FIA papers went for just over £200,000.

Recently amalgamated auction house RM Sotheby’s was responsible for four other cars in the top 10 cars. They included two concours winners: a 1935 Duesenberg Model J Dual-Cowl Phaeton that went for more than £550,000 and a 1933 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Sport Phaeton that made nearly £377,000.
