More than 100 classics set to go under the hammer at Chris Evans’ Carfest South 2015

More than 120 cars will go under the hammer over two days at the Classic Car Auctions Carfest South sales. They range from an original right-hand drive 1973 Jaguar E- type tipped to fetch up to £75,000 to a time-warp 1983 Austin Metro with just 741 miles from new that’s offered at no reserve.

There are some fascinating celebrity-owned cars in the 29-30 August sale, including a 2000 VW Golf GTi once owned by Elton John, a 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL formerly owned by Chris Evans and a 1967 split-screen VW camper that used to be home to Blues legend Seasick Steve. The 1.6-litre left-hand drive camper has been professionally restored and is expected to sell for £30,000-£35,000.

If you’re after a more affordable project with a showbiz connection, there’s also a Mini Moke that appeared in the cult 1960s TV series The Prisoner. It’s believed that four Mini Mokes were converted by Wood & Pickett in 1966 for use in the series, and the car on offer is one of them. It was recently discovered in a barn in Holland where it had been stored since 1974. The estimate for this car is £11,500-£13,500.

Day two of the Carfest sale will kick off with a tempting charity lot donated by Hornby Hobbies – Martin Brundle’s dream 2015 F1 Scalextric circuit. At 45 metres long, with 177 pieces, it’s the biggest Scalextric set-up the company has created, and features the best corners, chicanes and sections from the 2015 F1 calendar.

Former F1 racer and Sky Sports presenter, Martin Brundle, commented, ‘The team challenged me to design my dream circuit using sections from the 20 F1 races in 2015. I immediately wanted a figure of 8 like our beloved Suzuka, and could only dream of driving a series of corners such as scaling the mountain up to turn one in Austin before falling through the Senna S of Brazil and towards Silverstone’s fearsome Copse corner. And that’s just a small section.’

‘Now amazingly, we’ve built a model and so I will revert to my childhood for many laps. It’s going to get competitive,’ he added.

The circuit will be sold for Children In Need, with 100% of the money raised going to the charity.
