Something different: Goodwood automobilia - from weird to wonderful

Stunning supercars weren’t the only items on offer at Bonhams Goodwood Revival sale. Alongside 106 cars there were 172 pieces of automobilia.

A half scale petrol-driven Mercedes W154 child’s car was one highly desirable lot. A one-off built by an engineer, the Merc has a rear-mounted 50cc engine, 16-inch wire wheels and a fully trimmed cockpit with a push button starter. It was snapped up for £8,750.

If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, and you want something unusual to grace your garden, how about a hand-painted Mr Bibendum. This 120cm tall standing forecourt figure sold for £1,375.

Not everything on sale was motoring related. Bang On is a Spitfire World War II fighter plane bronze door knocker made by Gregory Percival. One of a set of six, the plane has a wingspan of 17 inches. It had an estimate of £600-£800 but didn’t sell.
