1980s icons up for grabs at East Anglian sale

There’s a wealth of original, unrestored classics on offer at the East Anglian 20 September sale.

My favourite is a 1988 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit, the updated version of the Silver Shadow that provided a bit more power along with boxier, more modern styling.

The East Anglian example sounds tempting with an estimate of £2000 to £3000, although it’s covered nearly 150,000 miles. It’s worth noting that these cars were prone to rust and that with more than 300 Silver Spirits still on the road, there are plenty to choose from.

Another car that holds fond memories for me is the Peugeot 205 GTI, as it was my first hot hatch. At £800 to £1,200, the Pug on offer sounds like a bargain, but it too has covered a lot of miles.

Not all the models in this sale have such desirable names though. The 1988 Nissan Sunny GSX may only have an estimate of £100 to £200, but it’s the five-door hatchback rather than the more desirable coupe model.

Similarly the 1982 Triumph Acclaim that’s up for grabs may be a rebadged Honda Ballade, but it’s not one of the most highly sought after 1980s classics.

And it’s hard to work up much enthusiasm for a diesel-engined 1994 Vauxhall Cavalier five-door hatch with 167,000 miles, even when the price estimate is just £400-£600.
